Age 12–17

Pre-Teens & Teenagers

Teens are often the most musically motivated learners — they know exactly what they want to play and have the discipline to practise consistently. Older students often aim for competitive events, school bands, or formal grade examinations. Lessons match their pace and ambition.

What is the minimum age to start guitar lessons? +

We begin children from age 4, though we typically start very young children on ukulele first — it's smaller, lighter, and easier on small fingers. Most children transition to guitar naturally around age 7–8. We never rush this — the goal is to build love for music before technique.

Should I buy a child-size or full-size guitar for my child? +

Guitar size should match the child's arm length and hand span, not their age. We recommend: 1/2 size for ages 5–7, 3/4 size for ages 7–11, and full size from age 11 onwards (though this varies child to child). We advise on the exact size and model after the first class.

How much should my child practice between lessons? +

For children under 8: 10–15 minutes daily is ideal. For ages 8–12: 20–30 minutes daily. For teenagers: 30–45 minutes. Consistent short practice is far more effective than infrequent long sessions. We make practice pieces fun so children look forward to practising rather than dreading it.
